Ohio County Workforce
Ohio County, Kentucky is home to some of the hardest working people in the country. With a history of coal mining and agriculture, our workforce has grown up knowing the meaning of hard work and is willing to put in the hours necessary to get the job done. Companies who move to Western Kentucky are pleasantly surprised by how much they can depend on our workforce to deliver - every time.
Strong Workforce
The population in Ohio County is on a steady incline and the median workforce age is 40.7. Companies in Ohio County have access to a large workforce pool made up of six cities (Hartford, Beaver Dam, Centertown, Fordsville, Rockport and McHenry, and the unincorporated town of Rosine), which also extends beyond the county into other parts of Kentucky. In addition, there are many locals who are working outside of the state and wish to return home, creating an even larger talent pool.
Access to Higher Education
Seven colleges and universities are within close proximity to the county’s border, and a highly educated and highly motivated existing and future workforce is found right within Ohio County. Workforce education programs help high school graduates and adult learners to increase their skills and prepare to enter the workforce. Within the county, the following institutions are training the next generation workforce.

The Ohio County Area Technology Center is dedicated to preparing the next generation of employees for Ohio County and the region. All programs offered at Ohio County ATC fall within the “High Demand” category as determined by the Department of Labor. Areas of study include Automotive Technology, Business, Carpentry, Electrical Construction, Information Technology, Health Sciences, Machine Tool, and Welding. Through these programs there are 55 plus hours of dual credit opportunities for students in partnership with OCTC.
Students can receive industry certification in Healthcare Skills, Carpentry, Electrical, Welding, and Automotive.
