Tool & Die Maintenance Technician
Technical Competencies: Strong knowledge of machining and tool making equipment (lathes, end mills, surface grinders, welders, etc.). Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and interpret design drawings, informal sketches and notes. Able to read and interpret operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Non-Technical Competencies: Communication (verbal communication, listening, written communication, on-the-job training). Judgment and thinking (original thinking, judgment and decision-making, problem solving). Performance skills (accuracy with detail, planning and organizing, efficiency). Personal characteristics (motivation/commitment, flexibility, assertiveness, development orientation, resilience, quality orientation). Environment: May be exposed to both hot and cool conditions, with a moderate to high noise level.
Responsibilities
Interpret customer prints, engineering specifications, layout results and functional requirements. Lift dies using hoist or crane. Clean dies, as needed. Polish, grind, and finish as needed. Weld, operating various welding equipment. Measure die parts using metric scale. Disassemble and assemble to design specifications. Wire limit switches. Report and document activities as needed. Fabricate items as needed. Operate milling machines, lathes, and surface grinders.
Qualifications
Tool & Die Maker certificate and/or equivalent 3 years of related work experience or equivalent. Related certification from college or technical school, or two (3) years experience and high school diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to pass a drug screening and physical. Thorough knowledge of operating tool room and production equipment. Excellent trouble shooting for dies, cutting tools, (end forming, crimping and bending an asset).
