Position Purpose:

The Medical Waste Route Driver Lead is responsible to provide shift leadership with guidance, training, and coaching to enhance the teams service level to our clients, while taking care of all customer needs. The Lead is to serve as an example to other Route Drivers, trains new drivers, and is considered a developmental role for succession planning. The Route Driver Lead maintains Stericycle policies, standards, and practices and ensures adherence to Stericycle’s Vision, Mission and Values.

All Company assigned vehicles are equipped with camera telematics which include inside and outside cameras.  In addition, all vehicles are equipped with ELD (electronic logging device) and GPS (global positioning system).   

Responsibilities

Key Job Activities:

Manages assigned routes ensuring customers’ waste is picked up in a safe, timely and accurate manner.

Pick up and transport waste safely according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations. 

Plans daily schedule based on customers’ needs by reviewing daily paperwork, e.g., manifest, route sheets, previous VCR, etc.

May prepare and load trucks to service select accounts for the day, ensuring enough supplies are added. 

Loading and securing of waste or material or unloading truck at various Stericycle and select customer accounts.  Inventory and load of supplies needed each day. 

Pick up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day.  Ensures customers have packaged and prepared waste according to all federal, state, and local rules and regulations before transporting.

Provide the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts daily, communicating any issues to the Transportation Manager/Supervisor or Dispatcher for resolution.  

Ensures waste, supplies, and material handling equipment are secured prior to operating vehicles on public highways. 

Operates company equipment in a safe and efficient manner to minimize the risk of injury and equipment damage.

Provides training, coaching, and mentoring to fellow drivers and new hires.

Ensures DOT Driver Log is completed, if applicable.

Communicates with Stericycle Transportation Supervisor and/or Dispatcher regarding any change to route pickups, including address changes, customer not having waste ready for pickup, etc. 

Performs pre-trip, post-trip checks, and driver check-in on assigned truck, prior to leaving or closing for the day.  Reports any maintenance problems to Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher for follow-up. 

Complies with all local, state and federal laws governing driver fitness and hours of service. 

Completes other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Preferred Education: in High School or Equivalent

Experience (North America & LATAM):

Required Years of Experience (North America only):   2+ years
Required Experience: Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience.  
Preferred: Two or more years of customer service and route management experience 
Preferred Experience:   In-depth knowledge & understanding
Vehicle(s) Driven:  Box Trucks
Age 21 or older

Experience (EMEAA):

Certifications and/or Licenses:

Commercial Driver's License B (CDL B)
